Grateful for the opportunity to share our Founder's story in Bold Journey.
Hi Desiree, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I have always felt really connected to my intuition and have used the feeling in my stomach/gut to help guide all of my decisions. In my twenties, while I was reading Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, I used the tools in the book to identify my values along with my personal mission statement. Over the following decade, as I continued to focus on my personal development and follow my heart, the love and respect I have for animals and the planet became a driving factor in my life and my career decisions. In my late twenties, I read a book called Skinny Bitch, and became consciously aware of the horrendous nature of the animal agriculture industry which altered the course of my life. Developing a passion for the vegan movement and lifestyle for myself personally along with my entrepreneurial mindset enabled me to identify my purpose as being here to help propel this movement forward and become a pioneer in the vegan fashion space.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m the founder of Voes & Co which I believe to be my heart’s true calling. Voes & Co was created out of my desire for fashionable designer shoes not made from animal materials such as leather or suede and also not made from environmentally harmful plastic based synthetic materials such as PU and PVC. The vision for Voes & Co came to me after following a vegan lifestyle for many years and wishing that there was something that I could wear that would identify & showcase my values. I wanted a brand that represented the movement based on love and compassion known as veganism and as such I created Voes & Co to become the global icon for Veganism through the creation of designer shoes made with plant based next generation materials.
