Meet Amy, one of the most passionate empathetic vegans we've ever met - not to mention the funniest. She calls Melbourne how and spends a lot of time travelling and exploring abroad. We most recently met her in Tuscany on a vegan getaway with the Getaway Co. Amy doesn't even flinch when she calls her pets her kids and we love her even more for that.
Q: When did you first go Vegan?
A: 2018
Q: How did you feel when you made the decision to go Vegan?
A: I was extremely angry, I felt completely lied to and disgusted.
Q: What 3 words best describe how you felt?
A: Outraged, alone, heartbroken
A: Dairy milk chocolate
A: My frustration for them due to the fact that they know, have been informed and SEEN the cruelty of these industries but continue to support them. And the apologies for eating animals, I say "don't apologise to me, if you feel you have something to be sorry for, that's on you".
Q: What's it like being Vegan in Australia?
A: I have a lovely community of vegans around me in Melbourne which is a far cry from where I was before 2022 being the only vegan I knew. Melbourne vegan scene unfortunately lost some amazing places due to the pandemic, however we still have some amazing places that vegans and omnivores alike just adore.
A: The options available. The innovation and replication of cruelty free versions of food we all grew up with has been so exciting to see. There is no longer any food I "miss" because we have an incredible vegan counterpart.
A: Tofu. Probably 7 times a week. #teamtofu
A: Limited options and styles. Expensive.
Q: Can you share 3-5 of your favourite Vegan Brands or Products?
A: Eco Tan, Yay Foods, Etiko,
Q: What was the funniest/craziest thing that someone has said or you've heard/read about Veganism or about being Vegan?
A: Something that still amazes me is that so many people think cows produce milk constantly and that we are helping the by milking them. They're not aware that cows, like humans, have to be pregnant to produce milk. Wild.
A: For the Animals
