Vegans of the World: Jamie Logan, New York

Vegans of the World: Jamie Logan, New York

Jamie's an animal advocate, YouTuber, Filmmaker, Content Creator and Podcast Host based in NYC who makes videos that get people thinking—Some call it ruining lives and pushing her agenda but she likes to think of it as sharing an obvious truth that most people tend to ignore.

She's passionate, sassy POWERFUL, and we just love her!

Q: When did you first go Vegan?
A: January 1st of 2018

Q: What happened, what was the reason you chose to go Vegan?
A: I needed a new years resolution and so I decided to give Veganuary a try after being vegetarian for a year.

Q: How did you feel when you made the decision to go Vegan?
A: I initially felt excited but also nervous. However, once I started learning about the dairy and egg industries, I felt angry that I had been misled my whole life. Going vegan ultimately became the best decision I've ever made, as it allows me to live according to my morals every day.

Q: What 3 words best describe how you felt?
A:
Cautious, shy, determined.

Q: What was or has been the most challenging part?
A: The most challenging part was handling the social pressure and pushback from others. This made me determined to learn the facts about animal agriculture and nutritional information, enabling me to have intelligent conversations about it and hopefully inspire others.

Q: What was the hardest food for you to 'give up'?
A: I think eggs were the hardest food to give up because they were so easy to make and very filling. However, then JustEgg came out on the supermarket shelves and now I gobble those up! Is that speciesist?!

Q: Are there any foods or products that you are available now that you wished existed back then?
A: Oh yes, sooooo many. It's never been easier to be vegan in 2024. There are so many more delicious plant based products now then there were 7 years ago. I wish violife and climax cheese existed back then, as well as Voes and Company vegan shoes, and nellys organic chocolate bars!

Q: What do you find the most challenging about being around non vegan people?
A:  The most challenging part is seeing dead animals on the table and watching everyone ignore the suffering the animal endured. Subconsciously, they often project their guilt onto vegans by making fun of us. This can be challenging, but now I welcome the questions and judgment, using them as opportunities to educate and inspire.

Q: What's it like being Vegan in New York?
A: It is so easy being vegan in New York because there are so many great plant-based restaurants and an active activism scene. There is a large community of animal rights advocates, which is crucial for me. In a world where others might judge or ridicule you, having a supportive community that understands and uplifts you is essential.

Q: What would you say has changed the most in terms of Veganism over the course of your journey?
A: My approach to activism is constantly changing because I am always accessing how effective my tactics are. I used to have more of an angry approach with non vegans which was draining for me and probably for them. Now I try to look at them as allies and draw them in with attraction rather than promotion. I'm always stern and firm in my message of animal liberation but I have to change my approach depending on who I am speaking to.

Q: What do you eat at least 3-5 times a week?
A: Mangos, dates, bananas and tofu.

Q: What do you find is most challenging when it comes to Vegan Fashion?
A: I try to only support 100% vegan fashion brands when shopping for shoes because it was getting way to complicated reading the labels and looking into the glues used. For other fashion items I thrift my clothes and stay clear of leather, fur, silk, suede, or any animal derived materials.

Q: Can you share 3-5 of your favourite Vegan Brands or Products?
A:
Elf cosmetics, youth to the people, nelly's organics, boone broth, doshi.

Q: What was the funniest/craziest thing that someone has said or you've heard/read about Veganism or about being Vegan?
A:
There are so many ridiculous things people say like: The animals will overpopulate if we don't kill and eat them... The answer to that is that we would just stop forcibly breeding them into existence in the first place. I've also had people tell me soy makes you grow boobs and I'm like well wouldn't that be nice... Has not worked out that way for me. People will regurgitate information put out by the meat, dairy, and egg industries without fact checking anything and it's frustrating but it motivates me to continue the everyday work of educating people as often as I can.

Q: The #1 reason you are Vegan:
A: For the Animals

Additional thoughts:
I hope anyone reading this considers getting more active for the animals. We need to be bold, brave and take on actions to create a better tomorrow for the animals, the planet and our future generations. Change starts with US!
