Vegans of the World: Polly Foreman, London UK

Polly is from the UK and is an Editor for the high profile site Plant Based News! She claims that going vegan is by far the best decision she's ever made.
Let's find out more about this beautiful, inspiring, writer!

Q: When did you first go Vegan?
A: January 2014

Q: What happened, what was the reason you chose to go Vegan?
A: I had been vegetarian for a few years, which was a decision made entirely because of my belief in animal rights. Gradually, I realised I was being a hypocrite for consuming dairy and eggs, as these industries are no less cruel than meat.

Q: How did you feel when you made the decision to go Vegan?
A: It was 10 years ago, and a very different time to now. Veganism has skyrocketed in the last few years, meaning plant-based food is now much more accessible and people understand veganism more. When I first went vegan, I was slightly nervous about what I would eat as options were limited, but I got used to it. I felt semi-supported, but people close to me worried I wouldn't be healthy, and they also thought it wouldn't last (they were wrong on both counts). I did feel alone, but I was also extremely happy that I was doing the right thing for myself, but most importantly for animals.

Q: What 3 words best describe how you felt?
A: Happy, alone, excited

Q: What was or has been the most challenging part?
A: The most challenging part about veganism is the constant misinformation flying around, meaning people are constantly challenging my veganism on very questionable grounds.

Q: What was the hardest food for you to 'give up'?
A:
I used to eat a lot of cheese, but it wasn't hard to give up once I realised who the victims of cheese were.
Q: Are there any foods or products that you are available now that you wished existed back then?
A: Good quality vegan cheese (it used to be non-existent / very questionable)

Q: Did you go Vegan by yourself or did you know others?
A: I didn't know anyone

Q: What do you find the most challenging about being around non vegan people?
A: Constant questions based on misinformation (vegans eat only rabbit food, vegans are destroying the rainforest etc).

Q: What's it like being Vegan in London?
A: London is one of the best places in the world for vegans. It's full of plant-based restaurants, and has a great vegan community.

Q: What would you say has changed the most in terms of Veganism over the course of your journey?
A:
There is a huge variety of vegan alternatives now. The vast majority of these didn't exist in 2014.

Q: What do you eat at least 3-5 times a week?
A:
Beans, bread, tofu, salad, hummus.

Q: What do you find is most challenging when it comes to Vegan Fashion?
A: I find fashion pretty easy as the materials can easily be found on the labels. My only annoyance is that it can be hard to find a winter coat as many are made with wool, but it is possible!

Q: Can you share 3-5 of your favourite Vegan Brands or Products?
A: Tofoo, Vegan Doc Martins, oat milk

Q: What was the funniest/craziest thing that someone has said or you've heard/read about Veganism or about being Vegan?
A: That it's impossible to survive as a vegan (I get this all the time, they can never comprehend that I've been vegan for 10 years).

Q: The #1 reason you are Vegan:
A: For the Animals

Q Anything else you would like to add?
A: Going vegan is by far the best decision I have ever made!
